The Pre-Nicega Tournament has come and gone but the memory will forever lingers in the memory of Arbicans most especially the sport loving ones, the tournament has exposed the lack of sport drive in the college as the it performed woefully in the competition, they were only able to qualify in tenis, hockey, cricket and basket ball. The reason(s) for this can not be far fected considering the fact the the college used a fire brigade approach for the tournament, they were not prepared enough, the athletes bemoan the lack of support the college management gave them, according to a source who spoke to us ''We Learnt that the sum of 2.5 million naira was budgeted for this competition but only one million naira was released, we didnt even feel the impact of the one million and you expect us to do wonders, are we magicans??''
Majority of ACE Ondo athletes complained about the way the management treated them, according to one of them, we were paid 1,500 instead of 6,000 for the competition, there is no much motivation, athletes from other school are paid about 6,000- 8,000 for this competition and ACE Ondo is paying us 1,500, see the difference.
However we learnt Nicega rules stipulate that the minimum amount any athletes can be paid for this kind of competition was 500 naira.
Also, the short time frame has been attributed as one of the causes of ACE Ondo poor showing at the tourney, most of the athletes only started training this semester, so, the chemistry was not that much okay compared to other schools who have been together for months/years.
Most of the athletes who played individual games informed us that they trained themselves, a tenis player(Name Withhled), see Mr Journalist '' See this rackets, i have two rackets and i used 2,500 to repair each making 5,000. All from my personal pocket, no coach to train me, i train myself''.
However in a twist to the whole drama and hullabaloo, there has been a far cry as regards the issue of the use of machinery by some particapting teams, it was alleged that most of the team recruited machinery and this was against Nicega rules which stipulate that all athletes must be a full time student of an institution.
One of the athlete who spoke to us '' The guy i played today told me he was in 300L in 2011, we also met today, are you telling me he is still in 300L, most of the athletes are machineries, that the truth''
